Kinder Morgan responds to media attention on Cochin Pipeline Kinder Morgans 1900 mile long Cochin Pipeline which traverses the Midwest to five U S propane terminals was out of service for a three week period late last year at the height of crop drying The disruption related to an ongoing pipeline reversal project that will be completed in July forced propane marketers in need of supply to look elsewhere Propane also has been difficult to come by in the Midwest this winter but Kinder Morgan said in a written statement Jan 31 that the Cochin Pipeline had been able to meet propane customer needs following the outage despite media reports that indicated otherwise Contrary to some erroneous reports the Cochin Pipeline is fully operational and capable of transporting propane at full capacity and there is propane available at our five U S terminals for pickup and redelivery by our shipper customers who own the propane in our pipeline Kinder Morgan wrote Kinder Morgan also said it had pipeline capacity available to handle shipper requests for additional propane WINTER PRICING AND SUPPLY Turkey farmer associations request federal action on propane supply The National Turkey Federation and the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association MTGA coordinated an effort to reach Congress and press for a solution to the propane shortage affecting a number of their members this winter Some of our turkey farmers are delaying shipments of young birds to their farms to save on propane but that can only be put off for a week or two before it wreaks havoc on the schedules of both the farmers and processing companies said Steve Olson executive director of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association in a February press release Farmers are working together with suppliers and other farmers to share propane MTGA on behalf of Minnesotas turkey farmers is working with our congressional delegation to ensure that propane supplies do not run out According to a press release the National Turkey Federation and Minnesota Turkey Growers Association pressed Congress to identify federal agencies that can help to mitigate the shortage They also asked Congress to allow propane transportation via interstate pipelines highways rails and waterways as well as to maintain and expand federal allowances for propane suppliers to deliver increased supplies 36 LPGas March 2014 www LPGasmagazine com
